Each month, Woodridge UMC's Outreach Committee designates an organization, ministry, or mission (or two) to be the recipient of our monthly Outreach Offering.

February 2018 Outreach Offering

Black Methodists for Church Renewal determined in 2003 that the history of African Americans was not being adequately told. The history was lost in attics, basements, and even thrown away. The African-American Heritage Center was created, partnering with the General Commission on Archives and History.

The Mission:
“To establish and provide for the maintenance of an African American Methodist Heritage Center, connected with a historically Black institution, that will preserve and protect artifacts and be accessible for research about African American people in Methodism.”
• Develop partnerships with our sister denominations who share Wesleyan heritage.
• Hold Local Church workshops in each region of the country to empower African American churches to preserve, advocate and display their unique stories.
• Enable and encourage scholars to increase research and writings specific to African American Methodist history

What They Do:
One goal is to teach churches how to gather facts about African American contributions to The United Methodist Church (UMC) they may not have known. Another goal is that such information fosters greater appreciation, insight and encouragement about effective discipleship, evangelism and mission. We provided tools to equip churches in uncovering historical contributions of African American pioneers in their own local churches that are perhaps not widely known. Numerous ways of preserving and sharing information by experts in the field of research.

The Heritage Center celebrates telling the stories of the struggles and victories of African Americans called to enhance the mission and ministry of the denomination. AAMHC seeks to creatively develop and disseminate, through print and electronic media, discoveries that have brought us thus far on the way. The collections reveal God at work in the lives of God’s people and offer guidance for the future.

Not sure how to give to the monthly Outreach offering?
There are 3 ways to give.
  1. If you pay by check, simply write "[month] Outreach" on the notes line at the bottom of the check. Put your cash or check in the pink envelopes marked “Outreach Offering” in the pews and write your information on the envelope.
  2. If you have automatic withdrawal for your church commitment, you can have your monthly Outreach donation added to this process. Click here to sign-up.
  3. If you are interested in automatic withdrawal, simply print this form, complete it, and return to the church office. You can also obtain the EFT authorization form from the office.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
