“The Lord is my shepherd.  I lack nothing.
He lets me rest in grassy meadows; He leads me to restful waters;
        He keeps me alive.
He guides me in proper paths for the sake of His good name.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me.
Your rod and your staff—they protect me.

You set a table for me right in front of my enemies.
You bathe my head in oil; my cup is so full it spills over!
Yes, goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life,
    and I will live in the Lord’s house as long as I live.”

Psalm 23

This, by far is one of the most well known and loved Psalms that ever existed!!  It gives a sense of calm and confidence in the most trying of times.  Many had to memorize and recite it as children in Sunday School performances.  We have heard it at funerals and other kind of settings.  But familiarity sometimes means that we repeat and don’t internalize.

This Psalm is a reminder to us of the constant care that God takes to let us know how much we are cared for and about.  A reminder that we do not travel life’s roads alone, we are protected, we are forgiven and that our current state is just temporary.  Those assurances and many more are contained in just a few verses. Maybe we should read it again??!!  Take time and think carefully about each verse as we read it.  Then we will get part of a glimpse of how much God loves us!

PRAYER:  Loving and Protecting God, continue to remind us of how you care for us, even when we don’t acknowledge it!  Thank you for your love and your peace.  Amen.
