"The Best is Yet to Come"

This Sunday we will have our annual observance of All Saints’ Day where we remember our loved ones who have died this past year.   In our church family, Carmella Staudacher is remembered as one who was committed to the work of the Food Pantry.  Her warm smile and personality invited others to remember that we are all God’s creation.  Our journey through life touches other lives in many different ways and as we remember those we love this Sunday, we can surely sense their presence.

Our lessons from Revelation and from the first letter of John remind us that we have not seen all there is.  The BEST IS YET TO COME!!  Who we are now is no comparison for the future.  That’s a nice thought but what does that all mean and why is it important?  Good questions.  As we look at our texts for this Sunday from Revelation, I John and Matthew, we may see a glimpse of what that all means and why it is important.  Join us at 9 or 10:30 a.m..  ALL ARE WELCOME!!!!

 Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

“THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFE…” FAITH IN ACTION

At the end of her sermon each week, Pastor Danita asks us “to think about (our) lives” and live into our faith as we go forward with our daily lives.
Last week on Tuesday, October 17th through Wednesday, October 18th, many members of Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC) did just this as they provided food for, and served nearly 60 homeless guests at the Downers Grove Methodist Church.  Many stories were shared about how our volunteers felt that they received much more than they believed the guests were receiving.  This reminded me of something that I had read by Karen Armstrong which I’d wanted to share:
Sometimes it’s the very otherness of a stranger, someone who doesn’t belong to our ethnic or ideological or religious group, an otherness that can repel us initially, but which can jerk us out of our habitual selfishness, and give us intonations of that sacred otherness, which is God.  It is a beautiful and joyous thing to observe, and be part of---practicing Christ likeness; putting emphasis on Love---Love for God, neighbor, stranger, outcast, outsider---RECIPROCAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD FELT AND EXPERIENCED---AMAZING GRACE.  “Thank You” to all who participated; and I hope and pray that others will put their devotion into action and be inspired to serve in the future!  Patricia (Pat) DelRosso

PRISON CLOTHING MINISTRY – EXPANDS

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that our Prison Clothing Ministry is GROWING AND EXPANDING.  We are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!

FILL THE BASKET

Are you scratching your head, saying “WHAT BASKET?”  It’s the one that sits on the floor on the left side of the middle entrance to our Sanctuary.  PLEASE LOOK FOR IT, AND DON’T FORGET TO BRING A DONATION TO CHURCH TO FILL THE BASKET FOR THE WEST SUBURBAN FOOD PANTRY (WOODRIDGE FOOD PANTRY)!

Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC), our Church, partners with the West Suburban Food Pantry in providing food for the economically disadvantaged of our community.
