"Eyes Wide Open"

Although it may seem that it started months ago, the season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is probably one of the busiest seasons of the  year.  Family and friends gather from near and far.  Shopping is the priority for so many.  Lights and decorations are everywhere you turn.  And my goodness, the music is playing loud and clear in every venue possible!!!

So, too the church will “get into the spirit” of the holidays.  This Sunday we will share in a time of “Hanging the Greens”.  No, that does not mean that we string up lettuce and kale!!  It means that we will place items in the sanctuary and around to remind us of the connectedness of those items to our faith story.  There will be singing and there will be readings and we will focus our attention on the coming events with our “EYES WIDE OPEN”.  This reminder comes to us from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.

This week, there will be one worship service to do all this “preparation” at 10:00 a.m..  Please join us.  ALL are welcome!

 Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

PRISON CLOTHING MINISTRY – EXPANDS

 Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that our Prison Clothing Ministry is GROWING AND EXPANDING.  We are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

 The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
