Finally, the Wise Men arrive with gifts for the Christ child!!!!  So now we can put away all of those decorations and stuff.  But, not so fast..  One of the foundations of our faith as a Christian has just occurred and we are ready to move on to the “next thing”.  After all, the stores and radio stations have already started to put up their spring displays and we must keep up.

On this first Sunday of the new year we will celebrate EPIPHANY, the arrival of the Wise Men and the enlightenment of this entire Bethlehem-event.  Sometimes our journey of faith takes twists and turns and we get reminded that “another route” would be preferable.  We find ourselves having to do some recalculation and make adjustments.  We will review the importance of sometimes doing that “RECALCULATING” as we reflect on the “why” of the event and our part of the legacy.   Maybe we will be a little less hasty in taking those decorations down and “putting away” Christmas!!

Join us on Sunday at 9 or 10:30 a.m..  All are welcome!

Snow Shoveler Needed

The Trustees are looking for someone to shovel the sidewalks around the church when it snows on evenings (by 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. depending on meetings that are being held each evening).  We pay $25 for each instance of shoveling - and we have a snow blower available to use! The parking lot is not a part of this assignment.

Bible Study

Our next bible study  will be HALF TRUTHS by Adam Hamilton and will be offered on Wednesday evenings (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) and Tuesday mornings (10:30 a.m. to noon). The plan for Wednesday remains to join the youth for dinner at about 6:30 p.m. and then as they go off to their activities, we will go to our class. We will conclude at 8:30 p.m., about the same time as the youth finish.

True or false:
1. Everything happens for a reason.
2. God helps those who help themselves.
3. God won’t give you more than you can handle.
4. God said it, I believe it, that settles it.
5. Love the sinner, hate the sin.
All true? Not so fast. We’ve heard these phrases all of our lives, but in Adam Hamilton’s new book, Half Truths, you’ll learn that although they capture some element of truth, when compared to the wisdom found in Scripture, they’re really just popular sayings.

The WEDNESDAY class will begin on Wednesday, January 10th. The TUESDAY class will begin on Tuesday, January 16th. The cost is $15.00 per person for the study guide. Please plan to join us!! Sign-up sheet is in the narthex.

PRISON CLOTHING MINISTRY – EXPANDS

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that our Prison Clothing Ministry is GROWING AND EXPANDING.  We are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
