"Celebrating Resurrection"

EASTER SUNDAY CELEBRATION!!!  In a world full of Good Friday experiences that jar our foundations and leave us empty and devoid of faith, we need to be reminded of God’s gracious love and mercy.  The Resurrection of Jesus is one of the foundational truths of our faith.  We gather every year to be reminded of the ultimate triumph of love and hope over death, hate and despair.

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate and remember the Resurrection of Jesus.  There will be awesome music and communion as a part of our celebrations.  At 9:00 a.m. Pastor Dave will help us focus on the story of the empty tomb as told by the women found in John 20:1-18 as we are “RUNNING DOWN A DREAM”.  At 10:30 a.m. Pastor Danita will also help us focus on the resurrection story through the eyes of Peter as we are reminded that there is “LIVING PROOF” for this event.

ALL are welcome.  We look forward to greeting you at 9:00 and/or 10:30 a.m. this Sunday!!

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

Congratulations

We extend our prayers and congratulations to our district superintendent, Reverend Dick Wisdom.  It was announced on Sunday, March 11th that he has been appointed as the lead pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Plainfield beginning on July 1st.  The farewell celebration for Reverend Wisdom has not yet been announced.  However, he will be preaching and worshipping with us on Sunday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m..  Our prayers and best wishes go out to him on this new journey!!!

Our new superintendent will be the Reverend Jeffry Bross.  He is currently the pastor of the Flowing Grace United Methodist Church and was the presiding elder for our church conference this past year.  His appointment will begin July 1, 2018.  Our prayers are also with him during this transition period.

Spring Bible Study

This spring, we will explore another book by Adam Hamilton entitled UNAFRAID: LIVING WITH COURAGE AND HOPE IN UNCERTAIN TIMES.  Drawing on recent research, inspiring real-life examples, and fresh biblical insight, Hamilton shows how to untangle the knots we feel about disappointing others, failure, financial insecurity, loneliness, insignificance, and aging. Then he helps readers understand and counter fears related to such outsize perils as terrorism, death, and the apocalypse.  Writing with generosity and intelligence, Hamilton shows how believer and unbeliever alike can develop sustaining spiritual practices and embrace Jesus’ recurring counsel: "Do not be afraid." For anyone struggling with fear or wondering how families and communities can thrive in troubled times, Unafraid offers an informed and inspiring message full of practical solutions.  Join us on Tuesdays (beginning April 10th) at 10:30 a.m. or on Wednesdays (beginning April 11th) at 6:30 (dinner with the youth/class at 7).   There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex.

Beautiful U – Girls Conference

We're inviting teen girls to the Beautiful U Girls Conference on April 7 in Troy, IL! You can register today for this great ministry event, designed to help girls get a clearer message of what true success and beauty is all about.

The world sends too many messages and girls need to hear one clear message - they are loved! Not because of looks or status, but because they are a child of God.

Girls will enjoy the speakers, the worship, lunch, refreshments, seminars and experience stations. Students can register and attend on their own, but moms and or female ministry leaders are welcome to join in on the day (and many do)!  For more information, contact us: Harvest Ministry, Tim Price, 618-667-6241

If you would like to see the equipment and what we do there will be a demo on Saturday, March 31st at 10 am by the garage. If you would be interested in participating in this adventure, please contact Rick Cihlar at 630.969.5958 or on Sunday mornings.

PRISON CLOTHING MINISTRY

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that we are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
