Monthly Outreach Offering OLD

Each month, Woodridge UMC's Outreach Committee designates an organization, ministry, or mission (or two) to be the recipient of our monthly Outreach Offering.

December 2017 Outreach Offering

West Suburban Community Pantry

The past few years we have been accepting drop box donations for the food pantry instead of donating food baskets, turkeys, or hams.  This year, instead of drop box donations, the Outreach Committee has decided to make the West Suburban Community Pantry the Outreach Project for December.

Remember, for every $40 we spend on a single food box the pantry can purchase enough food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank to fill 4 food boxes!

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Our Mission

The West Suburban Community Pantry offers food for the hungry and resources to empower persons to improve their quality of life.  Our vision is a community without hunger.

Our History

The West Suburban Community Pantry traces its roots to a small pantry dating back to the 1970s. In 1992, the Pantry was incorporated and obtained its 501(c)(3) status in response to the growing need to feed the hungry in DuPage County.

The Pantry operates year-round with a goal that each eligible family in DuPage County receives nutritionally balanced food, including meats, dairy, and fresh produce monthly. We are also registered as an emergency food pantry for Illinois.

A Brief Overview

With the help of volunteers and sponsors, our vision is to eradicate hunger within the families and individuals in the DuPage County area. We are dedicated to providing food for the hungry, educating the donor community about existing needs, and supporting advocacy efforts for the hungry. We also work hard to encourage volunteerism and the sharing of resources.

The Facts for Fiscal Year 2016:

  • We served 36,000 were served, including 14,000 children and 5000 senior citizens.
  • An average of 4,478 persons received perishable and non-perishable food, including fresh produce, milk, eggs, and meat each month in our Fiscal Year 2015.
  • 100 students were supplied with a backpack filled with 22 lbs. of food each weekend.
  • Other services including school breakfast programs, nurse’s snacks, high school mini pantry, summer feeding program, food delivery for homebound seniors, car seat distribution and safety classes, school supply distribution, and assistance with applying for governmental programs like SNAP, LIHEAP, and access DuPage.
Not sure how to give to the monthly Outreach offering?
There are 3 ways to give.
  1. If you pay by check, simply write "[month] Outreach" on the notes line at the bottom of the check. Put your cash or check in the pink envelopes marked “Outreach Offering” in the pews and write your information on the envelope.
  2. If you have automatic withdrawal for your church commitment, you can have your monthly Outreach donation added to this process. Click here to sign-up.
  3. If you are interested in automatic withdrawal, simply print this form, complete it, and return to the church office. You can also obtain the EFT authorization form from the office.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
