All Eyes on Me!

The season of Epiphany is about the revelation of who God is through Jesus Christ.  We have seen how important it is to each of the Gospel writers to make a point of this revelation.  We also have seen the radical inclusivity of the message recorded in these Gospels as well.  The poor and disregarded are included right beside the "high society" types.

This week the passages from I Kings (Elijah's encounter with the widow at Zaraphath) as well as Jesus reading in the synagogue are reminders of the same revelations indicated above -- care for the widows and orphans and make sure all are included!!!  Even though Jesus is in his hometown amongst people He knew, He gets the proverbial "side-eye" ... "is that Joseph's boy talking to us like that?"

So why do we need to hear about this?  We already know about God's work through Jesus Christ?  Have you looked around lately?  It seems as though we may have forgotten!  When children and elderly go hungry and homeless we have looked away.  When price is more important than principle, we have looked away.  Our passages this week remind us to keep focused with "ALL EYES ON ME!"  Not on what society says is acceptable or normative but what has been "revealed" to us down through the ages.  Let's see how we can keep our focus during these trying times.  Join us on YouTube on Sunday at 10:00 a.m..  See you then!
