Heirs of the Promise
This is the second Sunday of Advent, the Christian New Year. While the church is preparing itself for the arrival at Bethlehem, the world seems to already be celebrating the birth. This is the first of December and the shelves are already bare of lights and decorations. Toys and other gift possibilities are in short supply as well.
Even our scripture lessons seem to have moved pretty quickly, taking us to the encounter between Elizabeth and Mary. But if we look a little closer we will find that to not be the case. Even tho we are using a new lectionary with updated language and research, the story is the same.
During the season of Advent, we are reminded of the promises of God made to a variety of people and the ultimate promise...that of Jesus. But the promises do not stop with Mary and Elizabeth. Revealing the promises of God even includes us. Yes, we are "HEIRS OF THE PROMISE"!!
And just what are those promises? What do they say to us today? How might we respond to those promises made and kept with God? Let's talk about it on Sunday and see what we come up with! Join us on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. or on YouTube and we will look at some of those promises and our response.
