Legacy of Hope
This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. It is a chance for Christians around the world and across denominations to celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion at the same time and on the same day! It is a reminder to us of the universal and inclusive nature of the church.
For us as United Methodists, it is one of the Sundays during the year that we receive an additional offering. One half of the proceeds from the offering is for World Communion Sunday Scholars administered by the General Board of Global Ministries. The remaining one half is to be used for the Ethnic Scholarship Program and the Ethnic In-Service Training Program, which are administered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. These scholarships help students from around the world in their pursuit of higher education.
We support these scholarship efforts knowing that we are passing the baton to the next generation of leaders for the church and the world. Just as Paul reminds Timothy that his learning about and growth in the faith had been passed to him by those who had gone before him, his mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois. It is a LEGACY OF HOPE and of faith that will continue to be passed on to others about God's love for and work in the world. Yes, we are an important part of that legacy. Let's talk about how and why it is so important on Sunday. Join us at 9 and 10:30 a.m.. ALL are welcome.
