Now Get to Work!!
God has a strange sense of humor sometimes. Sunday is designated as Peace With Justice Sunday and oh my goodness do we need to talk a little about that!! Our denomination sets aside Special Sundays throughout the year to emphasize who we are and what we stand for. If we ever needed to talk about peace with justice, this would be the time!
Some time the famed epistle writer Paul touches on a theme that makes you sit back in amazement and say...."wow! He hit the nail on the head with that one!" In his message to the church at Corinth we can see some of that happening. Thanks Paul, for your writing in 2 Corinthians 13 because in looking at The Voice and The Message versions of this passage, we can hear it loud and clear! No justice, no peace. Paul is bidding Corinth good-bye but waves his hand saying...."NOW GET TO WORK!"
But then the Gospel writer Matthew sends us out into the world to make disciples, teach God's way of love and justice and baptize people into a movement that can change the world. What an awesome undertaking! After last week's Pentecost experience, we are given the task of spreading God's message in our own voice for others to hear. Matthew told the disciples back then and tells us clearly today...."NOW GET TO WORK!"
So what does that have to do with the message Paul lays out on this week? I guess you will have to tune in Sunday at 10:00 a.m. on YouTube to find out for sure.
