Speaking God's Truth to Congress
Politics and government policy can be confusing, but Jesus made it abundantly clear that we must always look for ways to help those struggling in hunger and poverty. This Sunday, September 11th, we welcome our guest speaker, Cynthia Changyit Levin. She will share how she lives out her faith advocating to her elected officials in partnership with vulnerable people in her talk, “Speaking God’s Truth to Congress.”
Cynthia is the author of From Changing Diapers to Changing the World: Why Moms Make Great Advocates and How to Get Started. A non-partisan activist working across a variety of issues, Levin coaches volunteers of all ages to build productive relationships with members of Congress. Cynthia (like her friend, Pastor Dave) volunteers with Bread for the World. She’ll share how church relationships started her journey as a global activist and update us on how our actions with Bread are helping people around the world and in our country.
Following the service Cynthia will be in the Narthex for conversation. You can buy her book there (and even have her sign it!).
Levin is currently a volunteer with RESULTS, the ONE campaign, Bread for the World, CARE, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, MomsRising, and the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign. As she says, “An everyday citizen who learns the skills to advocate to our elected officials is democracy at its finest. To save lives with those skills is humanity at its finest.”
Do not miss this opportunity to hear from—and learn from!—Cynthia Changyit Levin in worship this Sunday, September 11th at 10:00 a.m.
