The Voices of the Silenced
The season of Epiphany is quickly giving way to the season of Lent but certainly not an end to the many ways God is revealed to us through Jesus Christ. The message for us to share with others is a daily revelation and not just for a season. For far too long, the message of how we become (and live into) God's beloved community has been limited to certain times, places and people. But week after week we hear the voices of those who have been silenced by social, political and/or economic reasons rising up to share God's radical and life-changing message of love and hope.
This week we take another look at the widow of Zarephath as well as Tabitha (a disciple of Paul) and an unnamed widow who happened to be on her way to bury her son. All of whom would have been "unlikely candidates" to be recognizable and "worthy" messengers. Yet their stories meld together this week for us to hear the "VOICES OF THE SILENCED".
As history has taught us, the most heart-changing messages have come from the most unlikely people. As we continue to journey through this Black History Month, listening to voices that we have not been familiar with or others that we have not wanted to hear, may our ears and hearts be opened to the new and different sounds of hope and love in God's beloved community. Join us on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in person or on YouTube.
