God Alone Can See

02.21.25 | by Rev Dave Yim

Jesus says, “Love your enemies.” He goes on to say, “Do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, for God is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as God is merciful.”

But is it really possible to love our enemies? Can we love those who have harmed us? How can we extend kindness to those who have shown us hatred? And how is it that God is kind even to the ungrateful and the wicked? What does Jesus want to teach us through this week’s Scripture?

The story of Joseph offers a powerful example. Instead of being killed by his jealous brothers, he was sold into slavery and endured great hardship. Yet, when he finally encountered his brothers again, he did not seek revenge or condemn them. Instead, he said, “God sent me before you to preserve life… It was not you who sent me here, but God.

How was Joseph able to respond with such grace? How can we love our enemies as Jesus commands? This week’s Scripture challenges us to reflect on what it truly means to love as God loves.
